NO GAME NO PROBLEM
INTRODUCTION

Welcome to my Super Dangan Ronpa Cosplay Gallery. Dangan Ronpa is a game that I have not played personally, but watched people play on YouTube… It’s just one of those games where I didn’t like the gameplay, but has a nice story and characters.

CHARACTER SYNOPSIS
For ye who hath not played the game

Chiaki is a calm and quiet individual. She seems, at first, to be a little unsocial, but eventually opens up, and becomes a lot more talkative when discussing games. She is quite analytical and enjoys learning new things, leading her to ask questions often.

Fuyuhiko is initially incredibly stand-offish and rude to the other students on the island. He claims he’s not going to play at being friends with anyone, and when he is questioned about this in, he states clearly that he would not hesitate to kill anyone of the others.

Peko comes off as a very serious and stern woman who shows little to no emotions. She speaks with an authoritative tone of voice, and she is mostly business. Despite her authoritative tone, she is respectful of authority figures and does not police the other students.

Mahiru is an optimistic and sensible girl who is generally rather calm and unafraid to speak her mind. She initially comes off as confident, but is later revealed to have self-esteem issues. Mahiru compares her photographs to those of her mother, a famous war photographer whose career led her to be absent from home for much of Mahiru’s life.

THE SETUP
How it’s all done – Chiaki Nanami shoot

A quick shout out to Luminos Studios Singapore, where the shoot was taken. As the theme has a lighted background, heavy guns are out of the equation along with the color gels.

We went with a Godox AD360 as the main light and Yongnuo YN-560 as the secondary – Both of them are literally at minimum power, so as not to overpower the background. It was a little bit of a struggle to get the lights right, but not a big deal. A little bit of shifting the lights around nailed the magic.

THE SETUP
How it’s all done – SDR2

Back to school as a student! I wish. This shoot is taken at Republic Polytechnic, with the utter fear of getting thrown out by security if we deploy our full gear again. Singapore kind of suck. Everything is about having to pay here in the world’s most expensive city.

So we started the shoot in a rather obscure corridor to avoid the eyes of some over-zealous security guards. We had just 3 simple off-camera flashes, 1 reflector and color gels. Back-to-basics stuff, but good thing we are indoor and bouncing the flashes off the walls did their magic.

Simple gears we had, but that did the job of getting our shots anyway. Aye, as I felt crippled without my gear towards the end of the shoot, I decided to f*** the rules. I had a money shot that I really wanted to do, and broke out my Godox.

Even if the security were to come, we would already have our shots anyway. So I had no qualms risking for this shot. It wasn’t quite as easy faking anti-gravity. I initially wanted a top-down approach as lying flat on the floor is much easier for the cosplayer, but it turns out that I need to be a titan for a decent top-down.

We then finally settled for standing flat against the wall instead. After a few tries of hair flipping, we finally got this epic shot…

A special thanks to all the guys for being so patient with my tortures creative snags.
